This tenugui in cotton is adorned with three mandalas delicately revealed by the technique of Sewn shibori, hand-dyed by Makiko Tokunaga at the’indigo Sukumo.
The circular patterns appear with all their subtlety on the fabric, between geometric vibrations and an impression of inner movement, like water ripples or celestial bodies.
Each mandala has been formed through meticulous sewing and binding, prior to immersion in fermented natural indigo. The result: poetic, soothing fabric, imbued with spirituality and textile beauty.
The tenugui, a traditional Japanese cotton cloth, approximately 35 × 90 cm, which can be used as a light scarf, a decorative wall hanging, textile wrapping (furoshiki), or an everyday accessory.
Each piece is unique, dyed slowly and carefully according to the natural cycles of indigo fermentation.
